This morning while eating breakfast on our back deck overlooking a private golf
course, I observed a first year Gray Flycatcher. The overall gray color, 2
wide buffy wing bars, and the distinctive tail-dipping action of the bird were
distinctive. The bird was using the scattered pine trees on the edge of the
golf course, staying low (1-5 feet), sallying forth to flycatcher and then
returning to the tree. Several times the bird went to the ground and then
returned low to a pine tree. Only once in the 15 minutes I watched did the
bird go above 5 feet.
