Hi Cobirders. My son Bob and his wife Sondra took me birding to start our 2014 year lists. We started a little before 10AM at Red Rocks trading post which gave us a good start with the Golden-crowned Sparrow putting in a brief appearance. I saw it too but it did not cooperate for me enough to see the golden crown. I have seen it several times each of last 3 years! We went to South Platte Reservoir where we got great looks at a Prairie Falcon on an utility pole NW of dam. We did find the 3 Long-tailed Ducks together in the middle of reservoir diving often in unison. On to Chatfield to search for the Brant which we did not find although we searched Campground A where it was reported about the time we had left the park. A quick stop at Mt. Olivet in small flock near the west exit we found a beautiful Snow Goose still with much black in wings) .
My yard list with todays count so far is 9 Total state list is 28 . A nice day for winter for sure. Bob Spencer N.
