BACA COUNTY: --At Two Buttes below the dam, Spencer reported EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE and Black-and-white Warbler on May 20. --At Cottonwood Canyon on May 21, Spencer reported 4+ pairs of Summer Tanagers and a pair of Greater Roadrunner near the campground. --At Picture Canyon on May 22, Spencer reported 4 PAINTED BUNTINGS (3m, 1 f) and a Greater Roadrunner along the entrance road. --On May 22, Brooks reported an EASTERN MEADOWLARK on CR 21 about .5 mile N of CR G. --At Sand Canyon on May 22, Spencer reported 1 m PAINTED BUNTING and1 m Scott's Oriole BOULDER COUNTY: --On May 19, Starace reported 2 Northern Parula and Broad-winged Hawk on Crane Hollow Road in Longmont. --A White-winged Dove was reported by Floyd at Greenlee Preserve on May 20. --A YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER was reported by Moore on CU East Campus by the small bridge on May 22. CHAFFEE COUNTY: --On May 19 at Sand Lake in Salida, Rich Miller reported a Palm Warbler in SE corner. --At Frantz Lake on May 19, Rich Miller reported 2 Northern Waterthrush. --At an algae choked pond in Salida next to Arkansas River, Rich Miller reported Northern Waterthrush and Black Phoebe on May 19. DELTA COUNTY: --Caspian Terns were reported by Garrison on May 18, one at Fruitgrowers Reservoir and one at Confluence Park. DOUGLAS/JEFFERSON COUNTIES: --A Blackpoll Warbler was reported by Martinez at Chatfield SP on May 19. EL PASO COUNTY: --On May 18, Getty reported Black-throated Blue Warbler and Black-and-white Warbler and Percival reported Prothonotary Warbler and Blackpoll Warbler at Fountain Creek RP. On May 19 at Fountain Creek RP, Goff reported 2 Northern Waterthrush, and m Chestnut-sided Warbler. Percival reported at Hansen Nature Area which is across the bridge from Fountain Creek Magnolia Warbler, 2 Chestnut-sided Warblers, Northern Waterthrush on May 19. On May 19 at Fountain Creek RP, Getty reported Prothonotary Warbler by Chilcott Ditch, Black-and-white Warbler in Area 3, and PRAIRIE WARBLER low in tree between Areas 2 and 3. On May 20 at Fountain Creek, Peterson reported that a Purple Martin flew over. --On May 17 on the Bear Creek Park spring count Getty reported m Black-throated Green Warbler, Indigo Bunting, 3+ Black-and-white Warblers, Northern Waterthrush, and Ovenbird. EL PASO/PUEBLO COUNTIES: --At Chico Basin Ranch on May 21, Bill Maynard found a m SCARLET TANAGER at Rose Pond, Drummond reported Northern Waterthrush at HQ and Rose and a Least Bittern being heard in SE corner of Rose Pond. --On May 22 at Chico Basin Ranch, Percival reported on the Pueblo side PRAIRIE WARBLER, LEAST BITTERN, 3 Northern Waterthrush, and f Blackpoll Warbler and on the El Paso side ALDER FLYCATCHER and m Tennessee Warbler. RIO GRANDE COUNTY: --On May 20 at Home Lake, Simmons reported MEW GULLS and Cassin's Kingbird. SEDGWICK COUNTY: --A Tennessee Warbler was reported by Mlodinow at Sand Draw SWA in Sedgwick on May 22. WELD COUNTY: --On May 18 at Crow Valley, Mlodinow reported that the GRAY-CHECKED THRUSH and PINE WARBLER continue. --On May 19 at Crow Valley, Lewis reported GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH, Black-throated Gray Warbler, Tennessee Warbler, Magnolia Warbler, Black-and-white Warbler, and Northern Waterthrush. --On May 20 at Crow Valley, Walbek reported Black-throated Blue Warbler, PALM WARBLER, Tennessee Warbler, Black-and-white Warbler, Northern Waterthrush, Ovenbird, KENTUCKY WARBLER, Magnolia Warbler, and Black-throated Gray Warbler. --On May 21 at Crow Valley, Walbek reported MOURNING WARBLER was found by Steinkamp, Tennessee Warbler, Black-and-white Warbler, Ovenbird, Northern Waterthrush, Summer Tanager, and Sheeter reported a Magnolia Warbler. --A Caspian Tern was reported by Prather at St Vrain SP at an old gravel pit at NW corner of Hwy 119 and CR 9 on May 17. Do not park on CR 7. On May 18, Hundertmark refound the Caspian Tern. On May 19, Knight reported a Caspian Tern flew in front of him just outside of St Vrain SP. YUMA COUNTY: --In Shelterbelt N of Wray, Mlodinow reported ALDER FLYCATCHER and Northern Parula on May 22. --At Stalker Pond near Wray, Mlodinow reported Black-and-white Warbler and Blackpoll Warbler on May 22. --A Tennessee Warbler was reported by Mlodinow at Wray Fish Hatchery on May 22. DFO Field Trips: \ The DFO field trip for Saturday, May 24 will be to Dawson Butte led by Doris Cruze (303-798-8072). Meet the leader at 0800 at the Castle Rock McDonalds Restaurant. This will be a quick introduction to Dawson Butte which is a gentle walking area that is slightly higher in elevation than Denver. Bring plenty of water, snacks and sunscreen. Lunch is optional; there are picnic tables in the area. The DFO field trip for Sunday, May 25 will be to Castlewood Canyon SP led by Chris Rurik (254-225-7104 or chrisrurik AT gmail.com) This is a 3/4 day trip. Meet at King Soopers at 100 Founders Parkway, Castle Rock at 0730. From Denver, take I-25 south to Founders Pkwy/Meadow Pkwy in Castle Rock (Exit 194). Turn le ft onto Meadows Pkwy. Continue over the I-25 bridge onto Founders Pkwy to the stoplight (Allen Way 0.02 miles). Turn right onto Allen Way to the NW corner of the King Soopers parking lot. Will carpool to the park from King Soopers. There is a $7 per vehicle fee unless you have a state parks pass. Bring lunch and plenty of water. We should finish around 1400. The DFO field trip for Monday, May 26 will be to Pawnee National Grasslands led by Chuck Hundertmark (303-604-0531 or chundertmark8 AT gmail.com). Meet Leader at 0700 at Colorado Parks and Wildlife, 5050 Broadway, Exit I-25 at 58th Ave, go west 2 block to Broadway, the north 2 block to parking lot on right. This will be an all-day trip; bring lunch and drinking water. About 200-250 miles driving. Please call or email leader if you are planning to go.
