COBirders,

I wasn't expecting snow last night but we had a smattering. Deck is snow
covered, with perhaps a quarter inch of snow. Temperature "only" went down
to 29ºF and now (before the sun is up over the hill) is a "balmy" 34ºF.
>From her behavior, our vagrant Mag hardly seems to notice this bit of cold.

The more I am learning from experts the less I am immediately concerned
about her in these (current) conditions. She is hardy and hummingbirds do
winter in far colder climates than we realize, with more wintering further
North than we realize. She (and the insects she feeds upon) seems to be
doing just plain fine.

That said, the expected weather conditions do look a little worse next
week. *I'd ask that nobody visits her after this weekend, at least until
weather conditions improve.* If she is still here Monday it'll be her
second week at this location, and hopefully anybody wishing to enjoy her
has had the opportunity.

We had a glorious pair of Golden Eagles enter the valley this morning. They
rode the thermals, hovering like a Kite while silhouetted against the
skyline. That, and I've learned that Northern Goshawk are more present here
than I'd realized, which is a special treat.

regards,

Adam
