There was a group of 3 female/immature Surf Scoters at Union Res., Weld County, East of Longmont Friday afternoon. Part of the time they were in a group of Am. Coots right along the south side (WCRoad 26). Also 1 Common Loon still in partial breeding plumage and 1 Pacific Loon. A huge group of mergansers, mostly common but a few Red-breasted and Hooded, were attended by lots of gulls including at least 1 Thayer's ( a young Glaucous was seen Monday just as the storm front moved in but not seen today, the first that most of the surface was visible). Still a 100s of Western Grebes with 10s of Horned and a few Eared, Clarks and Pied-Billed. Bill and Inez Prather, Longmont
