Next month CFO will sponsor two field trips to northeast Colorado and places
are available to enjoy either one.

On Saturday August 22, we will travel to Riverside Reservoir in Weld County.
Riverside, one of the Big Six reservoirs along the South Platte River as it
heads northeast toward Nebraska, is privately owned and generally closed to the
public. However, CFO has obtained access for a group on August 22nd.
Riverside is typically one of the first reservoirs to be drawn down in late
summer, so even when other spots are still filled to the brim with no shorebird
habitat, this spot can be hopping! Plus there is some excellent riparian
habitat below the Riverside dam that will host interesting migrants at this
time of year. The trip will depart at 6:00 a.m. from the park and ride at US
287 and Niwot Road in Boulder County south of Longmont and return by 6:00 p.m.
If you would like to join this CFO trip, please contact Bill Kaempfer
(kaemp...@colorado.edu<mailto:kaemp...@colorado.edu>) to reserve a spot.

Last year's CFO convention in Sterling was hugely successful for birders
seeking shorebirds, migrants and rarities of the eastern Colorado plains. This
year we are repeating the experience with an overnight trip to Sterling on
August 29th and 30th. Bill Kaempfer and John Vanderpoel will lead this trip
visiting spots like Jackson, Prewitt, North Sterling and Jumbo Reservoirs as
well as Red Lion and Tamarack State Wildlife Areas. Expect 120 to 130
shorebirds, raptors, sparrow, gulls, terns and eastern migrants over the two
days. The trip is limited to 12 people, so please contact Bill Kaempfer at
kaemp...@colorado.edu<mailto:kaemp...@colorado.edu> for more information and to
reserve a spot.
