It is May 5, and we caught our first Yellow Warbler, as Ira would say,
right on time. (We, like Ira, also had our first Lazuli Bunting today, but
that's not a bird for which we track arrival dates.) A relatively slow
day; the Yellow-rumpeds, which have been our most-caught bird almost every
day, seem to have moved on. Caught 11 new birds, plus two banded in prior
years:

Downy Woodpecker 2
House Wren 3 new, 1 banded 2015
Hermit Thrush 1
Yellow Warbler 1 (FOS)
Common Yellowthroat 1 (FOS)
Spotted Towhee 1 new, 1 banded 2014 (This guy has been hanging around the
Nature Center feeders for at least the past 2 years.)
Song Sparrow 1
Lazuli Bunting 1 (FOS)

Open daily, weather permitting, through June 2, EXCEPT for May 13, 14, and
30. It is almost always better to visit early in the morning. We are
opening nets at 6:30, and most days will have birds back at the station by
7:15. There are school groups every weekday, arriving about 9:45. We aim to
close by noon most days, earlier if it is very hot, very cold, or very
windy.
