Hiya!

The last few days have been a bit slow here at Chico Basin Ranch (fee area)
and we've been averaging about a dozen birds banded each day. *Ruby-crowned
Kinglet*s have been the number one species banded over the last two days
and we were fortunate to also band a handsome adult male *Golden-crowned
Kinglet*, a bird that we don't often catch here.* White-crowned Sparrow*s
are still being seen here in several small flocks, although they are
managing to forage in the field directly behind our nets without being
caught.

Our resident owls, both Great Horned and Barn, were out for quite some time
after sunrise today with the former calling well into the morning. We don't
ever catch the larger owls as with the mesh size that we use for our nets,
they would unfortunately go right through them. It is however nice to hear
them hooting as we set up our nets. Haha although I'm sure that some of the
smaller owls and other birds would disagree. :)

Remember our last day for fall banding is this Saturday, October 1st! If
you do plan on stopping by either tomorrow or Saturday I would suggest the
earlier the better as we are now often finding ourselves without birds
after the 9am net round.
