Marston Reservoir can be viewed from Old S. Wadsworth Blvd from the west side. The lake can be viewed also from the east side, from Bow Mar Dr. Since The Denver Water Department has lowered the lake birds are seen from a distance and viewing is frustrating at times. When more water will be put into the reservoir is a question, but hopefully it will have an increase of water in the next 3-4 weeks.
I birded Marston today, 11/15 and saw the following : Canada Geese, numbers are just starting to build up, around 100. Cackling Geese, around 32. Mallard, 30, Gadwall, 8, Green-winged Teal, 6, American Wigeon, 4, Northern Shoveler, 5, Lesser Scaup, 4, Bufflehead, 6, Common Goldeneye, 4, Hooded Merganser, 36, Common Merganser, over 340 and more were flying into the lake. Red-breasted Merganser, 16 , Ruddy Duck, 3, Common Loon, 5, Eared Grebe, 4, Western Grebe, 4, Double-crested Cormorant, 4, American White Pelican, 27, Bald Eagle, 2 ad., Red-tailed Hawk, 1, Black-billed Magpie, 5, American Crow, 12 , Red-winged Blackbird, 24. On November 2, 2016, Marston Reservoir had 16 Redhead Ducks, and 8 Ring-necked Ducks, at least 22 Gadwall, 18 Lesser Scaup, 1, Greater Scaup, 12 Bufflehead, 4 Hooded Merganser, 40 Common Merganser, 14 Ruddy Duck, 6 Common Loon, 4 Pied-billed Grebe, 14 Horned Grebe, 22 Eared Grebe, 38 Western Grebe, and 14 American Wigeon, and 6 Northern Pintail. American White Pelican were only 11 on November 2. Common Loon have been present at Marston now since 10/18. Birds at Marston change regularly. Happy Birding!
