It is looking to be a very good year for Black Phoebes in Canon City and Florence. Following is a summary of Black Phoebes I have observed in the past week in this area:
Canon City near First Street bridge over Arkansas River--observed a pair foraging together near the bridge. Have had this species in this location in past and expect nesting nearby. Canon City at Sell's Lake--continuing pair observed almost daily when I go down to walk the riverwalk. Canon City at MacKenzie Ave bridge over the Arkansas River-I continue to see or hear one or both of the pair I found there about 2 weeks ago. Historical nesting area. They can be heard and/or seen from the bridge (caution needed due to heavy traffic). Florence private property--continuing pair in historical nesting location. Florence private property--today I spotted one Black Phoebe at an historic nesting location on this other private property. Florence River Park--so far I have only seen one Black Phoebe which is often at the Sewer Plant that is located next to the park. I got a couple of good pics of this bird that are on my Birds and Nature blog, <http://birdsandnature.blogspot.com/> just scroll to right under the blog post on the swan.
