A Denver Field Ornithologists field trip at Denver City Park this morning found a single Cattle Egret foraging on the island in Ferril Lake while Black-crowned Night-Herons were busy courting and building nests above. One or two Snowy Egrets appeared to have claimed nest sites also. Double-crested Cormorants were on nests on Duck Lake, some with young in the nest. Some were still building or repairing nests. Unexpected was a Great Egret perched in a tree with a Snowy Egret providing a great comparison.
Other highlights included a couple of Violet-green Swallows and one Tree Swallow among the dozen or more Barn Swallows and two singing Chipping Sparrows.
