Hi all Linda Vidal led a group to Spring Park reservoir this lunchtime. Thank-you Linda Most impressive were the Swallows (mainly Tree) in similar numbers to yesterday – of the order of around 10,000 I would estimate. A few Barn Swallows were the only other swallow species identified
Also of note.. 1 Common Loon (alternate plumage 8 Franklin’s Gulls ca10 Barrow’s Goldeneyes 10+ Bufflehead 20+ Eared Grebes 75+ Western Grebes 3 (presumed Long-billed) Dowitchers - just a bit too distant to be 100% sure 1 Killdeer ...no other shorebirds were found 25+White-throated Swifts (a species that is unusual at this site) 1 Coopers Hawk 1 Golden Eagle 1 Northern Harrier (male) Many American Kestrels, sev Turkey Vultures and Red-tailed Hawks 1 Savannah Sparrow Several of Common Merganser, Lesser Scaup, Ring-necked Duck, Cinnamon and Green-winged Teal In addition Sora and Virginia Rails were head (but not seen) A herd of around 100 Elk were at the north end of the reservoir Good birding all.
