We banded 31 birds yesterday, including our first Gray Catbird of the
season and 2 Vesper Sparrows. The VESPs were interesting for us because we
catch them so rarely - only one other (in 2015) since 2005. These 2 were
in the same run but at different ends of the banding station - one out in
the smartweed near the lake and the other up by the road. Both hatch year
birds. Here's the breakdown for the day:

Red-breasted Nuthatch 1
House Wren 4
Gray Catbird 1
Orange-crowned Warbler 2
Yellow Warbler 9
Wilson's Warbler 11
Chipping Sparrow 1
Vesper Sparrow 2

I think Sunday was the hottest and most humid day yet; happy to be off
today and looking forward to the cooling off that is predicted for
tomorrow!

Come visit! We are open 6 days per week (CLOSED Mondays), weather
permitting, through October 15. We are opening nets at 6:30 and should have
birds back at the station before 7:30. We will close most days by about
11:30, earlier now when it is so hot. School groups arrive most weekdays at
about 9:30.
