Topiltzin Martinez and I did a midday recon of our Boulder CBC route along Boulder Creek from 30th to 55th Streets. No one out of the ordinary, but it was nice to see two Wilson’s snipes quite close up in the wetlands along the path just west of 55th and north of the path. There were also two green winged teal in the water a little west of the snipe, along with a good number of assorted expected waterfowl in the ponds south of the creek and west of Foothills Parkway. A raft of northern shovelers was spiraling in a tight circle as they fed, while a few ring necked ducks stayed on the outside of the rotating raft, presumably picking up leftovers. Being midday, it was a bit slower than usual, but we still managed to get 30 species, including a Townsend’s solitaire just east of 30th street and a juvenile dipper (yellow bill, pale front) in the creek west of 55th. We asked the snipe to please stick around until next week, and we hope they will be compliant!
