Cobirders, while participating in the Indian Peaks breeding bird survey at
Rainbow Lakes, Topi Martínez and I had a Northern Three Toed Woodpecker at a
nest. It seemed as if the woodpecker (a male) was working on the cavity, as we
didn’t see a female or hear young in the tree, and the wood shavings at the
base of the tree looked very fresh. We didn’t have any surprises on the count,
as it was fairly windy most of the morning.
