The owl in the photos is without question a Long-eared Owl.

All,
Surely, the bird is a Short-eared owl. Long-eared should have a rusty
facial disk and the big "wrist"
comma is typical of Short-eared. Long-eared should look darker on the
body.

Hi Gary,
The barring on the flanks should indicate that it is a long eared
owl. Short-eared should not show that.

Hi all
The owl we found on Pawnee NG trip over weekend continues to be an
ongoing debate-some have said Short-eared others Long-eared. I was
hoping your help can help definitively ID this owl. Made a collage
of available photos.
