Observation start time: 08:30:00
Observation end time: 16:30:00
Total observation time: 8 hours

Official Counter: Carol Cwiklinski

Observers: Janet Peters, Kathie Moses, Steve Ryder

Visitors:
Eleven visitors stopped on the ridge today; Marybeth and Greg, Paul
Michalec who helped us locate and identify raptors, an Adams County 8th
grade teacher, Michelle, Ericson and Andrew of Jeffco Open Space
Biologists, and Travis from Cincinnati. Travis located the ridge with ebird
hot spot locator on his phone and hiked to the top. He is a hawk watcher
from Allegheny Front in Pennsylvania.

Weather:
If you don’t like the wind, wait 10 minutes. Winds were variable all day,
one minute from the east and a couple minutes later from the west. We had
excellent cloud cover almost all day, thin clouds which helped us spot
raptors. Temperatures were comfortable.

Raptor Observations:
Most of our migrants were located by scanning the clouds. We had some birds
at eye level on the ridge. Raptors were scattered across the sky east, west
and over the ridge. Non migrants included a turkey vulture, immature bald
eagle, and red-tailed hawks.

Non-raptor Observations:
Numerous corvids were active, we also saw Bushtit, Northern flicker,
Townsend’s solitaire, black capped chickadee and others. We located a
large flock of passerines on Morrison Mountain early morning, estimated
200-300 birds mumurating which may have been Bohemian Waxwing, but they did
not come to our ridge.

Predictions:
Storms may develop in the area tomorrow, but predictions are frequently
incorrect so we will see tomorrow.
