I think you could test this yourself.

Can it be that the real difficulties are not caused by the preprocessor symbol that is mentioned in the shown message about a parse error but come from parsing challenges for identifiers which belong to compiler extensions?


In general, it would seem better to have something that is user-configurable.

Do any symbols need the empty string as assignment by default?


No idea what build system is being referred to.

I refer to the recent introduction of the Autotools approach here where a bit more fine-tuning might help. Are there any more tweaks needed for the flavours of the C programming language you would like to support?
