Reading and Writing to Windows Registry
NET developers often use XML configuration files (web.config or app.config) to 
store application configuration settings. This is indeed a recommended way. 
However, at times you need to store such settings in Windows Registry. For 
example, if you want to hide such settings from casual eyes or want to maintain 
some settings that are common across an array of related applications. In such 
cases developers prefer storing such values in the  registry. In VB6 registry 
related functionality was very limited. .NET framework offers a flexible and 
easy way to deal with the registry.
