It turns out that the exact same configuration WILL build a release version but NOT a debug version.

How is that even possible?

I am building a sample input method and the build succeeds, but the icon on the executable has a weird circle with bar (like a European do not enter sign) over it. When I try copying it into Library/ Input Methods it indeed behaves very slowly...practically useless.

I can't figure out what this is caused by or what it signifies, and I can't even find the right words to search this "do not enter" thing on line with any success.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

It means that the app cannot be launched on the system. For example, Classic applications show up with that icon on systems** that cannot run the Classic environment.

So, check into the architecture of what you're trying to build. Also, if this is under Leopard, aren't input managers/methods not allowed?
