Thanks for all the useful suggestions. We need to use a child window in the Windows app, since MFC does not have anything like drawers. If necessary we can use the same approach on Mac. But, maybe we'll get lucky and NSDrawer won't die. It only takes a few lines of code, and it is just right for this one task.
