Jason, Check out the CocoaMYSQL "bundled framework", aka MCPKit. It is quite easy to use, and there is an example app (cocoamysql).
My personal feelings are that we should all be using ODBC to connect to these DBs, however there is ODBC support under cocoa is presently pretty dicey, so we are stuck for now.
