I'm using a custom view that i simply fill with a gradient in the drawRect method....I love the result however, I realized after adding some controls to my custom view that the "rect" being drawn in drawRect is not always the view's frame, but it's often just a small part of the view getting re-drawn (for example after pressing a button, or after a control looses its focus ring, the area around the control is getting re-drawn )

Obviously my technique isn't working because when this happens, the area around the control is getting filled with the gradient and the result is definitely weird...

I was wondering if there is a way to prevent this from happening?
