Maybe knowing when it becomes First Responder would work. NSTextField inherits from NSResponder. From documentation: -[NSResponder becomeFirstResponder] Notifies the receiver that it’s about to become first responder in its NSWindow. - (BOOL)becomeFirstResponder Discussion The default implementation returns YES, accepting first responder status.
