Thanks for the corrections. But changing the line in question to

      myTrackingArea = [[NSTrackingArea alloc]
initWithRect:self.blueView.bounds
options:(NSTrackingMouseEnteredAndExited |
NSTrackingActiveInActiveApp | NSTrackingInVisibleRect ) owner:self
userInfo:nil];

doesn't change the puzzling behavior when attempting to re-add the
tracking area.
