I considered that for a while, but since -drawInRect exists for NSBitmapImageRep, I thought it was useless. Besides, it seems the compositing operation in -[NSBitmapImageRep drawInRect:::::] does not work either or at least not in the intended way. Go figure. Thanks for your help Kyle.
