 I’d go with the latter. If a popular app or the system display stuff in one 
format, display it the same way. If you need to display this way, maybe go with:

16 bit 256 x 256 (128 x 128 @ 144dpi)

or something like that, so users can get the information needed, but also know 
which value Finder gets its info from. IMO pixels are actually a good idea, 
because for bitmaps it indicates whether it has enough pixels to print (even if 
you may have to resize it a little) Whereas that’s harder to tell. I.e. if I 
know my paper is 5 inches wide and my printer is 300 dpi. I can tell that 
anything below 1500px width will look blocky at full width. Or for the web, you 
know what size it can be at most, stuff like that.
