You can use CVDisplayLink (Foundation, OS X) / CADisplayLink (iOS) with pretty good accuracy or a time dispatch timer. The dispatch timer approach is more portable (no changes in your code), a bit cleaner (block based, instead of function pointers in the case of CVDisplayLink), but it is up to you.
