There has been some discussion on the xpc forum in Core OS on devforums about inter application communication. I new I'd seen it somewhere. https://devforums.apple.com/community/mac/coreos/xpc The thread "Can I use NSXPCConnection between two desktop apps?" I think is most relevant as there is some discussion of different options.
