I had a go at integrating those validation targets into the build. It seems to work nicely.
There is a basic document explaining it at userdocs/concepts/validation.xml So validation of core configuration files and xdocs happens automatically during the build. Currently doing cocoon.roles, all sitemap.xmap, all *.xsl stylesheets, and all xdocs/*.xml The targets can also still be called from the command-line. It does not yet happen automatically with the default build target "all". My head started going in circles with the complex build.xml file.
