I have the same problem experienced.
remove jaxp.jar and jasper.jar from your tomcat/lib directory ant put the
cocoon xerces_1_4_1 and xalan_2...somewhat.jar in your $JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/ext
directory.
This should work, but unfortunatly I've never succeeded to solve a identical
cocoon problem on different machines at same way ;-)
