Alan, yes, I can confirm that renaming the classes12.zip file to classes12.jar is just what it takes. After all, JAR is based on ZIP (look at: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/docs/api/java/util/jar/package-summary.html )

I'm connecting to the database using an external class rather than the built in cocoon approach.
