Yes, I did so successfully with 2.0.1 and Resin 2.0.5. Is anybody out there with 2.0.2 who can try to disable logging?

My system (Tomcat 4.0.1 and Cocoon pre 2.0.1-dev) *will* report FATAL_ERRORs only that way.
