"&" in XML Output

How can I have the following in my xml output.

<word spelling="SPELL"
pronunciation="m&#601;mba&#618;"/>

This uses and xml serializer.

The result i get is

<word spelling="SPELL"
pronunciation="m&amp;#601;mba&amp;#618;"/>
