The HSSFSerializer hardcodes the mime-type as "vnd.ms-excel" whereas I think it should be "application/vnd.ms-excel" (at lease that works better for me). Without this I got erratic behavior with IE/Excel - sometimes the spreadsheet would appear inside the IE window (excel inside IE) and othertimes it would appear inside a separate Excel window.
