Hi,

Thank you but my question was about the meaning of the word in the context of XMLForm 
rather than the definition of the word itself.

To say in another way: 
what do you fill with values?
Where do you come from these values?

It comes from the verb "populate", which, in this context, means 
something as "fill with values".
