Actually, Linux is not a word as such, Linus Torvalds created the
name, prior to that it did not exist so trademarking it is a valid
thing.  The difference with coda is that it is a pre-existing word in
the English language, trademarking that is a bit more tricky - usually
the trademark applies to a rendition/look/feel rather than the actual
word.
