The University of Georgia Libraries is seeking candidates for the position of
GALILEO/GIL Systems Librarian.  This position reports to the Head of
GALILEO/GIL Technical Support Services in the University of Georgia Libraries
and is located in the Main Library.  This position will act as the library
subject matter and Alma workflow expert for the GIL team, and as liaison
between GIL staff and GIL member libraries, working with all levels of library
staff across the state in the identification and investigation of system issues
and enhancements.  This position participates in various state-wide groups
engaged in specific development tasks related to Alma.  In the absence of the
Head of GALILEO/GIL Technical Support Services, this position coordinates with
appropriate administrators (the UGA Libraries’ Deputy University Librarian and
Director of Library Technology and/or the University System of Georgia’s
Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Library Services and Executive Director
of GALILEO) to address any immediate issues.

GALILEO stands for GeorgiA LIbrary LEarning Online, an initiative of the Board
of Regents of the University System of Georgia. GALILEO is an online library
portal to authoritative, subscription-only information.  GALILEO serves more
than 2000 institutions, including the universities and colleges of the
University System of Georgia and Technical College System of Georgia along with
Georgia K-12 schools and public libraries.

GIL stands for GALILEO Interconnected Libraries, the integrated library
management system for acquiring, cataloging, accessing, and circulating the
collections of the USG institutions.  GIL uses Ex Libris’ Alma, which is hosted
in the cloud.  Alma supports library catalogs and services; in addition, each
institution has access to a “union” view, with the holdings of all GIL
participants. Through this view, GIL Express requesting (borrowing books from
another USG library) is initiated. GIL applications support staff are located
at UGA (supporting 27 USG institutions).
