The University Library is seeking an IT Technical Associate (Web Applications 
Developer). The Web Applications Developer will work with the Head of Library 
Systems, and other Library IT staff to develop, implement, and maintain 
web-based library systems. In a dynamic and responsive environment, the web 
developer will contribute to each stage of the project lifecycle, from project 
planning with stakeholders, to writing top-notch code, collecting and 
integrating user feedback, creating effective tests, and writing quality 
documentation.

Essential Functions

Develop and implement applications, databases and web services for the 
Library’s web presence.
Write fully accessible and responsive HTML user interfaces.
Fully document code and processes.
Write tests to be used in continuous integration processes.
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor degree within Computer Science or related discipline.
Minimum of 1 year of progressively more responsible experience within IT Web 
Application Development, which includes demonstrated experience in developing 
and/or modifying new and existing applications, including requirement analysis, 
design, code, test, debug, implementation and maintenance.
Demonstrated knowledge of high-level languages used in web development such as 
PHP, Python, Java or Ruby.
Experience with HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript.
Proficient with a database query language (SQL, SPARQL, etc.)

Additional qualifications

Advanced degree in computer, information or library science preferred.
A minimum of 1year experience building interactive web interfaces with HTML5, 
CSS3, and JavaScript libraries and/or frameworks.
Experience developing for Wordpress.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills including the ability to formulate 
options, and recommend effective solutions.
Demonstration knowledge of web application frameworks such as Django, Ruby on 
Rails or similar web frameworks.
Familiarity with cross-platform compatibility and web accessibility standards 
and techniques.
Understanding of complex data systems, database design and/or linked data
Knowledge of library tools and technologies.
Experience with standard software development tools and techniques such as git, 
testing frameworks, etc.
Demonstrated ability to work collegially in a team environment
Demonstrated ability to support user-centered services in a culturally diverse, 
higher education environment.
