The Brown University Library (BUL) seeks a front-end developer to work on

the Center for Digital Scholarship (CDS), which continues to advance Brown’s
long-standing commitment to innovation in digital scholarship and serves all

and strategic thinker in front-end development who can write code in web
contexts, such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript to turn faculty and student digital
scholarship research ideas into final products.

to understand the scholarly ideas and goals of the project, identify the most
suitable technology framework for each project’s requirements, and determine
the architecture, frameworks, data schema, and development timeline to create
the project.  Through continuous learning and maintaining up-to-date knowledge
of best practices for front-end development, including inclusive design and
accessibility, the Developer ensures that CDS is offering the best front-end
frameworks, technologies, and functionality for digital scholarship projects.
The Developer will create, maintain, and update repositories of code and
develop recommendations for long-term, sustainable solutions to front-end
development.
In addition, the Developer will have opportunities to work on broader web-based
development projects (using, for example, WordPress or another CMS).  The
position may also involve serving as a mentor to undergraduate programmers who
may work on the projects as well.  This position is hybrid eligible with the
opportunity to work at least two days a week remotely.
