Job Description

The Collection Strategies Librarian, under general supervision, supervises the 
staff in the Collection Acquisitions & Support department. This individual 
will manage the library resources allocation and serve as a member of the 
library’s Collections Team.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Manage the lifecycle of digital resources, including databases, e-books, 
streaming video, serials, etc.  
Manage the allocation provided by the Library Director for the acquisition of 
print and digital resources.
Develop assessment strategies and conduct ongoing assessment of the library’s 
collection, in collaboration with other librarians and library staff. 
Collaborate with librarians and library staff, as well as library vendors, to 
maintain continuity of access to library resources through troubleshooting and 
testing.
Obtain and compile usages statistics for digital resources and provide analysis 
pertaining to usage.
Oversee the Federal Depository Library Program.
Maintain an awareness of current trends in acquisitions, collections, and 
digital resource management.
Collaborate with academic departments on grant funding allocations.
Collaborate with librarians and library staff on collection review and 
deselection.
Attend meetings, participate in special projects and serve on committees 
relating to the library, the University, and consortia, as necessary.
Supervise staff in Collection Acquisitions & Support.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements


Education – Master’s degree in Library Science or equivalent degree from an 
ALA-accredited institution.

Experience – Two years of related experience.

 

Preferred Education and Experience

Experience managing an allocation or budget
One year of supervisory experience.
Experience with negotiating contracts and license agreements.
Experience managing workflows and processes associated with the acquisition and 
management of physical and digital resources.
Demonstrated leadership ability in applying principles of diversity, equity, 
and inclusion to library collection development and management.

 

Knowledge and Abilities   

 

Knowledge of:

Word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. 
Scholarly communication and the evolving publishing ecosystem, including the 
open access movement.
Digital resource management and access.

 

Ability to:

Multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Excellent interpersonal, customer service, presentation, and research skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills. 
Use basic print and electronic reference tools. 
Work independently and as part of a team.

 

Licensing / Professional Certification – None.

Work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends
 

Starting Salary:  $53,500
