At OhioNet, our vision is to connect libraries for stronger communities. We put
that mission into action by supporting library success through learning
opportunities, technology solutions, consulting services, collaborative
purchasing, and strategic connections. In practical terms, this means that we
support libraries in all aspects of their work, and we’re always looking for
new or improved ways to be of service to our members.

What we’re seeking:

We are looking for someone with experience managing and supporting library
systems, especially in a shared environment, to coordinate the service to the
Consortium of Ohio Libraries (COOL). You have experience managing projects and
responding to support inquires and are comfortable communicating with external
partners, the COOL consortium library staff at all levels, and the consortium
board. You are also enthusiastic about technology and enjoy using and building
your technology and troubleshooting skills.

You understand the need to complete routine tasks that are essential to
effective system operations and support; your schedule will also allow time for
other work that is more inspiring to you as you support COOL and OhioNet as an
integral member of the Technology Services team. This is the work you came here
to do – helping our members use library systems and other technologies to solve
the challenges they are facing.

A typical day:

Your primary function will be to support the daily and on-going needs of the
COOL consortium, centering on their use of their shared Evergreen library
management system. You will serve as the primary point of contact for
consortium library staff and the consortium board and will coordinate with
outside service providers as needed to ensure the efficient operation and
effective use of that system.

In that capacity, a typical day could involve receiving, acknowledging,
investigating, and resolving support or service requests from COOL library
staff. Generally speaking, this might require using your broad technology
knowledge and your troubleshooting and communication skills to address these
requests. You might be modifying system configurations and ensuring consistency
with established protocols and parameters; you may also be generating system
reports or overseeing data output for authority processing or integration into
third-party systems.

Another key aspect of your work will involve coordinating consortium or
individual library projects. This might include implementing new system
functionality or working with outside parties to develop enhancements to
existing functionality. You may be called upon to establish a project plan and
corresponding timeframes and to ensure progress toward those plans. You may
also be working on multiple projects simultaneously and be called upon to
balance those based on priorities established in consultation with the Director
of Technology Services and/or the consortium board.

Other things on your agenda will include:

• Working with our Library Systems Analyst as needed for complicated or highly
technical projects or issues.
• Using your communication skills to prepare regular reports for the consortium
board, as well as internal documentation.
• Attending consortium meetings and participating in other group initiatives as
needed.
• Serving in a secondary support role for other department services.
• Participating in after-hours and weekend emergency support rotation.
