Job Summary/Basic Function

Provide technical, functional, and operational support for the Walker Library 
Makerspace. This position works collaboratively with the Assistant Manager (of 
Library Technology) to support and advance a complex computing and fabrication 
environment. Apply knowledge of Windows, MacOS, and Linux systems to coordinate 
student and faculty use of fabrication, design hardware, and software in the 
Makespace. This position is essential to supporting student success and 
experiential learning through multimedia equipment, specialized software, 
technical assistance and project design. Provide high-level project management 
for all active Makerspace projects. Guide students, faculty, and staff through 
individual or group consultation on projects using available technology and 
tools; make purchase recommendations for new equipment and software. 
Responsible for creating and delivering training and instruction on available 
technology and software, including a laser cutter/etcher, computer numeric 
controlled routers, vinyl plotter, 3D printers, hand tools, VR(virtual reality) 
headsets, AR(augmented reality) headsets, micro controllers, microcomputers, 
soldering, and electronic prototyping. Create, coordinate, and deliver training 
and instruction, supervise approximately 30 student employees working in the 
Makerspace. Design and produce demonstration and promotional items for the 
Makerspace. Provide curriculum enrichment and informational services to classes 
who visit the Makerspace. Perform other duties as assigned and contribute to 
special projects. While the primary schedule for this position is 9:00 a.m. to 
5:30 pm, Monday-Friday, flexibility is required to support special shift 
projects and events

Required Education

Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred in Computer Science, 
Computer Information Systems, Mathematics, Engineering, Multimedia Arts, 
Digital Design, or a related field.

Required Related Experience

3-5 years progressively responsible full-time experience that must include 
design, fabrication, makerspace equipment, including the installation, 
maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of microcomputers (Windows/Mac) and 
associated peripherals.

Desirable Related Experience

Five (5) years of professional experience as described above in a medium to 
large organization or higher education environment preferred. Two (2) years 
prior work experience in a library.
