General Responsibilities
Head of Digital Publishing supplies the vision and leadership for Digital 
Publishing to support the Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library's education 
and research missions.
This position works across library departments to develop and deliver an online 
environment that advances end-user resource discovery and use. The Digital 
Publishing Head oversees the work of Digital Publishing including: digital 
collections, digital exhibitions, online publications, open educational 
repositories, metadata, digital preservation. This is a Tenure Track position 
at the Assistant or Associate Librarian rank.
Reporting to the Associate Dean for Research and Director of the Eccles Health 
Sciences Library, the Head of Digital Publishing: Defines, executes, and 
assesses digital publishing partnerships, processes and platforms with the 
University of Utah Health community, including librarians, developers, project 
managers, faculty, staff and students; Leads and manages a staff of four; 
Develops and manages peer-review processes for digital publications; Supports 
design and development of digital exhibits to highlight notable aspects of 
digital collections; Maintains the physical and virtual digital collections 
environment to support the needs of students, faculty and staff; Works closely 
with the Assistant Director for the History of Health Sciences to highlight new 
aspects of the collection and prioritize digital exhibitions; Champions change 
and effectively manages the implementation of new ideas and technologies; 
Ensures that all programs and projects are designed to achieve the 
organizational goals and objectives of the Library and the Health Sciences 
Center.

Specific Responsibilities
1. Provide strategic direction for Digital Publishing
o Provide strategic vision, leadership, and supervision of day to day 
activities in Digital Publishing Group
o Plan, design and implement high quality digital publications in health 
sciences
o Collaborate with library and campus units, faculty, and students in order to 
foster and integrate new digital library solutions that will shape the future 
of the library and University of Utah Health's information environment
o Serve as Project Director for NOVEL (Neuro-ophthalmology Virtual Education 
Library), Moran CORE, and the Utah Dermatology Education Resources and Modules 
(Utah DERM)
o Lead education and technology projects and services such as the Tree of 
Hippocrates Education Studio and other video and photography projects
o Participate in the Eccles Library Communication Advisory Committee overseeing 
and implementing new procedures, technologies, and policies in regards to 
external and outward communication from the library as well as internal 
communication projects
o Facilitate continued work on the History of the Health Sciences, and other 
UHealth related collections
o Research, design, and supervise licensing policy, processing, pricing, and 
intellectual property involving Library digital assets, scholarly materials, 
and published products
2. Research
Engage in scholarship or creative activities consistent with the mission of the 
University and specific position responsibilities to advance the knowledge and 
expertise and to contribute to the intellectual discourse and the knowledge 
base of the profession
*         Communicate the results of research activities in the form of 
publications, presentations, posters, etc., to advance the library's ability to 
develop and deliver effective services
3. Provide service to the library, university, and librarian profession
* Volunteer for committee assignments within the Spencer S. Eccles Health 
Sciences Library and the University of Utah
* Participate in local, regional and national service in professional 
organizations and affiliations
Required Qualifications
1. Graduate degree from an ALA-accredited library school or the equivalent 
combination of a relevant degree and experience working with digital publishing 
efforts
2. Flexibility and adaptability for work in a fast-paced, changing environment
3. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
4. Willingness to learn about budgetary and purchasing processes
5. Experience working with digital asset management systems, ingestion tools, 
and preservation technology
6. Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace and community
7. Appointment at the Associate Librarian rank will require advanced research 
and librarianship to qualify for tenure at time of appointment.
8. Willingness to seek membership in the Academy of Health Information 
Professionals (AHIP)
Preferred Qualifications
1. Previous work experience with digital collections in health sciences 
libraries
2. Strong supervisory and personnel management skills coupled with a 
service-oriented leadership philosophy
3. Experience developing digital curricula, in collaboration with 
faculty/departments
4. Experience designing and developing exhibits representing individuals, 
programs, events, and specific topics
5. Experience collaborating with discipline-specific societies
6. Able to build and maintain inter-disciplinary teams and foster collaboration
7. Awareness of current digital collections issues
8. Demonstrated ability in project management and technology, including 
budgetary, licensing, and purchasing experience.
9. Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills
10. Experience providing instruction in an academic setting
