Archival Metadata Librarian (clinical faculty)

The University of Alabama Libraries seeks a dynamic, forward-thinking 
individual for the position of Archival Metadata Librarian. This is a clinical 
appointment reporting to the Coordinator of Metadata in the Resource 
Acquisition & Discovery unit and working collaboratively with metadata 
librarians, archivists, and digital initiatives staff in Special Collections. 
The position supports access to and discovery of University Libraries rare and 
unique resources, including manuscript and photograph collections, rare 
published materials, historic maps, and University records. This position will 
play a role in improving discovery of archival materials for patrons and will 
be committed to More Product Less Processing (MPLP) workflows. Specific duties 
include, but are not limited to: accessioning, processing, and arranging 
manuscript and photo collections; creating, maintaining, evaluating, and 
enhancing metadata records and finding aids; managing authority control and 
subject description in the University Libraries archival data management system 
(ArchivesSpace); and keeping up-to-date with current trends and issues in 
archival assessment, arrangement, and description. Responsibilities of the 
position change as the library environment continues to evolve.

Metadata Librarian (1 position tenure-track, 1 position clinical faculty)

The University of Alabama Libraries is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated 
individual for the position of Metadata Librarian. Reporting to the Coordinator 
of Metadata in the Resource Acquisition & Discovery department and working 
collaboratively in a team of metadata librarians, and appropriate units in the 
Libraries, this position supports the discovery of and access to the University 
Libraries resources through providing cataloging records, adhering to current 
cataloging standards, and analyzing and enriching the catalog. This position 
will play a role in improving discovery for patrons and will focus on More 
Product Less Processing workflows. Specific duties include but are not limited 
to: original and complex cataloging of monographs, non-book materials such as 
sound recordings, kits, videos, Government Documents, etc. as needed; bulk 
record editing and importing of records for continuing resources; performing 
authority work; evaluating catalog data for resource discovery; keeping current 
with issues and trends in cataloging; and managing metadata for Electronic 
Theses and Dissertations (ETDs), submissions to the Institutional Repository 
(IR), archival materials, and other library resources and records. This 
position will contribute to the management of metadata across multiple systems 
including the University Libraries integrated library system and archival, 
repository, and library storage solution softwares. The candidate must also 
possess the ability to deal with change and ambiguity in an academic setting. 
Responsibilities of the position will evolve as the library environment 
continues to change.
