Hello All:
My name is Andrea Puglisi, and I am part of a team of librarians exploring the
role algorithms and digital tools play in how we access, create and understand
information. This project was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum
and Library Services ("Open Educational Resources on Algorithmic Literacy"
project, grant number RE-254893-OLS-2).
I am reaching out to library and information (LIS) professionals to participate
in a survey study on interests and questions regarding algorithmic systems. The
survey will ask about your questions, interests, and experiences supporting
algorithmic literacy. We define algorithmic literacy as awareness and
understanding of the role algorithms and computation processing plays in
information access and literacy, in your library.
The purpose of this research study is to explore how academic and public
libraries understand and approach algorithmic literacy and possible
community-driven strategies for building upon their current approaches. This
study will also produce a report detailing these findings and open educational
resources (OER) addressing the expressed needs and interests of participants.

This survey will take about 20 minutes to complete. Please see the algorithmic
literacy survey link (hyperlinked) to access the survey:

If you have any questions, please reach out to Reanna Esmail and Iliana Burgos
via email at [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> and

share this survey and outreach broadly.
Thank you for your consideration!
Best regards,
Andrea Puglisi, on behalf of the OER on Algorithmic Literacy Research Team
