Library.

  
This position directly supervises the Collection Management Coordinator and
Metadata Services Lead Librarian. It oversees a $1M+ materials budget,
acquisition and processing procedures, the digitization program and general
work flow in these areas. It directs responsible spending, understands and
abides by purchasing regulations and oversees contract administration with
materials outsource vendors. It focuses on mentoring staff, as well as hiring,
training and scheduling staff.

  
The Scottsdale Public Library serves over 1.5 million visitors annually, has a
physical collection of 500,000+ items and an e-collection of 100,000+ items.
This position is one of a kind with specific responsibilities. It advocates
for the library and leads in the development and implementation of new and/or
enhanced services. A Collection Management & Metadata Services Library Manager
assists the Library Director in the administration of the City's Library
services.

  
**Minimum Requirements**  
  
_Education and Experience:_

A Master's degree in library science from an ALA accredited university, or a
Master's degree in a related field, and five (5) years of progressively
responsible library experience, including at least two (2) years of
supervisory responsibilities.

  
_Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements:_

  * A valid driver license with no major driving citations in the last 39 
months may be required.
  * Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some 
positions depending on division/department/service assignment.
  * Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  * Knowledge of:
  * Principles, library policies, best practices, trends and current 
professional library theories and issues.
  * Customer service principles and practices with dedicated emphasis towards 
excellence in service delivery.
  * Current and emerging models, practices, and tools used by public libraries 
for the access and discoverability of resources.
  * Library resources, both digital and physical, with proven ability to 
research, retrieve, evaluate, and utilize.
  * Supervisory techniques and practices.
  * Development of community outreach services to promote library usage.
  * Contract administration.
  * Relevant technology and computer literacy including Microsoft Office 
software, digital devices, and Integrated Library Systems (ILS) software.

  * Serve in absence of a Senior Manager.
**Essential Functions**  
  
Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional
area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the
following tasks:

  * Provide and model exceptional customer service by making the customer the 
first priority.
  * Establish, maintain, and foster positive, harmonious, professional, and 
effective working relationships.
  * Manage, create and/or deliver exceptional programming and educational 
opportunities within the library, through community outreach, and virtually.
  * Teach and collaborate with customers, staff, and a variety of organizations 
to create content, to be effective consumers of information, and to be a 
lifelong learner.
  * Communicate library policies and procedures and request compliance with 
Library Rules of Conduct.
  * Performs daily duties in a manner consistent with the Library's mission, 
goals, and objectives.
  * Meet diverse community needs, expose the libraries' rich collections and 
resources to the community and continually learn and apply new technologies.
  * Select, train, evaluate, and supervise paraprofessional and professional 
staff. Identify, implement, and monitor disciplinary action when required.
  * Participate in budget preparation and administration; prepare cost 
estimates for budget recommendations; submit justifications for budget items; 
monitor and control expenditures.
  * Develop requests for proposals; negotiate, review responses, monitor and 
oversee contracts
  * Identify, plan and oversee projects including grants.
  * Communicate regularly with staff who use collection management software to 
monitor material levels.
  * Provide in-depth reference and readers' advisory service to patrons; plans 
special displays,
  * Supervises and coordinates staff. This may include mentoring, recommending, 
and/or delivering training, and assigning work.
  * Participates in employee evaluations up to and including preparation and 
delivery of written performance appraisals.
  * Works with staff to grow and develop each employee's performance.
  * Works with employees to correct deficiencies and identify corrective 
actions.
  * Recommends and implements employee recognitions and rewards or, in some 
instances, disciplinary procedures.
  * Often participates in the hiring process up to and including the hiring 
decision.
  * Perform other duties as assigned.
