The Role

The Information Systems and Services Section of Senate House Libraries is 
looking for a suitably experienced Systems Librarian to support, maintain and 
develop the library information systems that support the activities and 
services of the research libraries.
The postholder will work closely with colleagues in order to ensure that our 
systems are customer-focused and responsive to user needs; in addition you will 
contribute to the development and delivery of Information Systems aspects of 
Senate House Libraries strategy.

Requirements
To succeed in this role, you will have experience working in an academic or 
research library service, in addition to experience managing and supporting 
specialist library systems. You will have knowledge of Unix-like server systems 
such as Solaris or Linux, combined with knowledge of library metadata and 
interchange standards, formats and concepts including MARC21, MARCXML, AACR2 
and RDA. An awareness of current issues and future developments in library 
standards along with web and librarianship regulatory and legal issues would be 
advantageous.
An ability to explain and demonstrate concepts, ideas and technologies to a 
broad audience both verbally and in writing is essential.

About The Department
Senate House Libraries, University of London constitute one of the world's most 
significant collections in the arts, humanities and social sciences. The eight 
collaborating libraries, at Senate House and for the Institutes of the School 
of Advanced Study together provide services to over 100,000 registered readers 
every year, from Colleges of the University and from the UK and international 
research base.
The combined holdings of the libraries amount to almost 4 million volumes, 
including many thousands of journals, and numerous deep and rich collections of 
research materials in subjects across the humanities and social sciences. The 
special collections embrace spectacular treasures like Shakespeare’s First 
Folio or the Coverdale Bible; renowned collections like the Goldsmiths’ Library 
of Economic Literature; and unusual and unique resources like the Harry Price 
Magic collection, the political pamphlets of the Institutes of Commonwealth and 
Latin American Studies, or the 300,000 photographs in the Warburg Institute.
