These events are often marked politicaly and we have to take care to not take part to one or another of this political marking, we have to stay neutral in this area, whatever our own personal opinions are.

Well, fair trade NGOs are usually fairly (no pun intended) political since they question capitalist exploitation of workers in the third world.

Although if you mean "political party affiliated" by political, I think you are safe. Fair trade movements are only loosely related to the "new left", not the Clinton/Blair third way but rather the Attac/Sud (to give French examples) kind of left.

Intellectually speaking I consider them very close to the open source movement. Even though the aims are totally different.
