I've just returned from CeBIT 2008 in Hannover (Germany). OpenOffice.org had a booth there organized by OpenOffice.org Deutschland e.V. and kindly sponsored by Apple, LinuxHotel, Duden and Azul Kaffee. We shared our booth with companies offering services and support around OpenOffice.org, namely SCAI, Mobility-Office, O3Spaces and - yes, it's true! - the Hamburg department of Sun Microsystems!

For all of us, it was a huge success. Lots of visitors asked us questions on OpenOffice.org, our document format and of course, the upcoming versions 2.4 and 3.0. Enterprise customers as well as governments and private users came to us to get in touch, show their efforts and migration progresses. Everyone gave its best to release 2.4 prior to CeBIT, but unfortunately, this didn't work out. Nontheless, the demand was overwhelming. At the weekend, we even didn't have enough demo points and staff to answer all questions, and in the end, all CDs, DVDs, brochures and other marketing materials were completely sold out. Sometimes, we had more than 30 visitors at a time at our booth wanting to see the new features and get information about upcoming releases.

We also had some very interesting talks to companies interested in sponsoring the development of OpenOffice.org, and I'm confident that we will present some nice results the next weeks, so stay tuned.

For us, this shows that attending CeBIT was exactly the right choice, as it is one of the largest IT trade shows in the world, being recognized and attended from visitors from all over the world. Hopefully, in the next year we will be able to have an even larger booth, presenting the international project and involving several native language communities. We just need to convince some people on how important this event is. ;-)

I'd like to take the chance and thank everyone involved in having such a great week! It was a pleasure to work with you, folks!
